Mpprh
HiSeduced by the Danish oil thread, I thought it was worth talking about varnish. It is formulated for the local climatic conditions : a different mix in the tropics to Sweden. If you search on google for accounts of RTW sailors they will discuss the best varnish for the tropics.I started by using up stuff I brought from Sweden. It peeled off after one summer. Then I bought the V55 (I think) stuff here. it lasted 3 years or so.Then I tried the top of the range 6 yr guarantee stuff. Surprisingly it is water based and looks like milk when you apply it. But it lasts & lasts : even on South facing shutters, etc.But it would probably be useless in -25C temperatures ?Peter
Teamedup
Well I need something to cover both extremes really. I've known it 35° here and -29°,fortunately only one winter like that, but we do get -15°'s enough to need to cater for them regularly. We use ICI's Holtzlasur (sp) and it seems to copy pretty well. It is expensive though.
