woodworm treatments

Hi

We have just bought a house in the Alencon region and having had time to explore the nooks and crannies of the house think it might have a woodworm problem.  Does anyone have any suggested specialists who would be able to assess and do any necessary works?  We are also looking to do some renovation works which would include converting the basement into rooms.  The basement is a good size and dry.

thanks

Try Pages Jaune (http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?). There should be quite a few companies around. Are you sure it’s live rather than old holes ? I’m no expert but I understand that a give away sign is the powdered wood under the beams (normally in lines or at least directly under the beams).

Sorry I cannot be more help than that.

Regards

Ian

Just be careful of some companies who are to commit l'arnaque and will tell you that there is a problem when in fact the holes are very old and no longer active. It is also very cheap to treat yourself, I got quoted 7000€ for my 'woodworm problem' which doesn't in fact exist on cmoser inspection.

We have found our bed attacked whilst we have been away, also our bedside cabinet - the verre de bois in our neck of the wood (ha), seem to eat everything. We have been down to the local co-op and purchased a large tin of Xylobois or something (smells bad and is quite lethal we gather). Been painting it everywhere - apparently the woodworm is active around now. We had all the powdered bits on the floor to guide us, but as the house had been empty for around six years, what could we expect. Good luck,

Keni (female)
