MimieMM
Is there anyone living in the Pezenas, Aspiran, Nizas or Gignac area that could help my husband for a couple of days replace a large beam under a floor? You can agree what you are prepared to do it for when you see him/the job in hand. He is in the house in France now so please respond asap. We cannot wait for another year for a French native and dare not risk putting a fireplace on top of this floor at the present moment.

Will
I think I ought to point out that somebody posted a somewhat similar request just a couple of days ago and we had to delete it after complaints about advertising for 'black market' workers. The point was basically that insurance is compulsory for such jobs in France and such insurance is only available to bona fide registered tradesmen. So, even if no money changes hands, what you are asking for is actually illegal.I can understand registered tradespeople wanting to discourage unofficial work. But in reality I can't imagine there being a problem in this case unless there is an accident, in which case you could be in serious trouble. Notwithstanding the fact that the French do this sort of thing amongst themselves all the time. So as long as you, the 'employer' and your volunteer(s) are aware if this fact I don't intend be so petty as to delete this request.Of course, if an artisan, registered and insured in France in an appropriate discipline, responds there will be no problem. Dick Smith
Mimie, I apologise for making a joke, I had not realised you would consider it to be some sort of verbal assault. But there you go.But why should I never make jokes because I am a teacher?
MimieMM
Thanks for letting me post the cry for help. We have managed to get a French builder to do the work now but by jingo, it is very difficult and frustrating waiting finding someone who will do it and then waiting for ever for quotes etc. I think the French should appreciate we want to employ them but they do take for ever and sometimes don't turn up...........still love em though! Down here the wine growers may be in trouble but the builders are doing pretty well.
Ron Avery
"Is there anyone living in the Pezenas, Aspiran, Nizas or Gignac area"Mimie Glad you are sorted out, but for the future if you need help, it might pay to post also in the appropriate region of France section at the bottom. BUT above all, please can you put which department you are in. ,I have not heard of any of the places that you mention, I suppose you could say if I could have helped I would know the places, but then I don't know every little village round here in the Aveyron (12) yet, its a big country.
