Poolguy
Absolutly. As for your beams, it depends upon the depth, the width and the condition of your oak beams. Also it depends on what you are putting on the floor.... a library for instance or a few pieces of furniture and the odd person. This is not guess work it needs to be calculated, for that we need numbers.Andrew
paul*y
Thanks Andrew,The whole floor is going to be new, 2 main oak beams across the 7 mt. then joists in between, it's going to be a new second floor, bedrooms etc.I just like to know what i'm talking about when discussing the work.cheers,Paul
Poolguy
300 mm sq minAfter that you'll be limited by what is available. If you can get it I would opt for 350 or even 375 if you can get them. Remember that depth is more important than width. If you have trouble email me. Andrew
Dick Smith
Also look out for defects - we had a wall taken out and spanned with an oak beam (300mm I think) and because of a knot it settled - only by 5mm, but that will wreck walls upstairs! The builder swapped it for a larger (and better) beam under guarantee, but it caused a few problems...
