Bannon
I am halfway through re-pointing a chalk block wall.... the worst job was having to hack off all the old remaining rendering and scrape out the joints. My question is: Giving that the original rendering was there to protect the blocks, do I now need to seal it with something.... and what? At 'home' there was a product called I think 'Thompson's Sealer' that you sprayed onto brickwork and the like - but what do I look out for over here? Thanks guys. Hindhaugh
The important thing is to allow the walls to breath. I have a big end wall on my cottage and its facing north so receives a lot of rain over the winter. Prior to painting recently I gave it a treatment with 'Thompsons' water seal and it appears to be doing a good job. Thompsons continues to allow the wall to breath , but cannot say I have seen anything in France. My end wall took 7 5 litre tins.
Bannon
Good point about allowing the wall to breathe.... I'd not thought of that. I'm back to the UK in October so I'll pick up a couple of tins of Thomspon's then. Thanks.
