Carolski
We live in a 200 year old converted farmhouse in Charente Maritime. Part of it (the garage), we use as a studio; the roof of which is now leaking. It comprises of straw and tiles and is supported by big beams. We have had a 'devie' from the local artisan saying we need a complete new roof.My question is, I have concerns that the new roof will not match the old one to the main house (which is OK for the moment, plus no way can we afford to have both done! and is directly attached to the garage), and that the new tiles will look 'wrong' in comparison. Any suggestions?Stuart

Nick Trollope
Talk to the roofer ?
Sound advice, but; as I guess the OP wants some options....You will not be able to match new & old tiles. I would get a quote that uses tiles that match the originals as close as possible & wait 'till they do (by which time the other roof will need replacing...). Or, are any of the existing tiles reuseable? If it is a pitched roof and one side is less visible, use old tiles on the visible side & new tiles on the other. Scour the architecural salvage yards for matching tiles.etc etc
