jehe
We are about to have a well dug to supply water to our millhouse but wondered whether mains water may be a financially viable option ??The problem is that our house is about 500m from the nearest water point and I imagine that I would have to foot the bill for connection to my property. Any idea of cost would be appreciated and helpful in deciding our next course of action.Thanks,Jim.
Dick Smith
You will be charged at a fixed rate per metre. The best thing to do is to get your local supply company to give you an estimate - ours was expensive (about 400m) but the commune paid half - we didn't ask, it was automatic, and a nice surprise. To be honest I can't remember the actual cost, but not cheap. On the other hand the water charges (for a maison secondaire) are pretty reasonable and much better than risking tainted well water - our was definitely non-potable!We feel that the convenience (no pumps, assured quality) has added a good deal to the value of the house and has made it a much better place.
