salamander
We are looking at making an offer on a house which allegedly has a fosse toutes eaux yet the waste from the kitchen sink goes straight into the ditch. My understanding was that the fosse toutes eaux was literally for ALL water from the house so it seems odd. If it really is a fosse toutes eaux, would it be a comparatively easy (cheap) to have extra pipework laid to connect the sink pipes to the fosse?Merci d'avance. BJSLIV
Clearly this isn't Toutes Eaux and is probably an old Fosse Septique which take only Bathroom waste, it would be interesting to know where the bathwater goes.Though it may be relatively simple to reroute the kitchen waste, there is always the chance that the tank is undersized, and that is why it currently goes to the ditch. When you village gets round to inspecting private drainage there is going to be some work needed to bring the whole system up to spec; kitchen sinks into the ditch being unacceptable under the new rules. Who knows what other things may be revealed.........Budget for £3000- £5000 for a new system and then you won't have too much to fear provided you are not on solid rock, confined space, very steep slope etc etc
