Iceni
Our carpenter (English but French registered) announced on Thursday that he would be going to work in England for the month of March despite knowing that we had a deadline to complete the work in mid April. As he has worked for us for the past three years - though not solidly I would have expected a little more notice. Anyway, the problem I have is with some remedial work that I need carried out although this is not the highest priority with his time with me.Question, am I legally entitled to withhold payment to ensure that he comes back to sort out the problems on his return from England? Thanks
Nick Trollope
Yes, if it says so on the devis (alot of Artisans allow a 10% - or so - retention). Or maybe no, but is he likely to sue you if he hasn't finished the work? I think not.
