Pat Rewbury
Does anyone know if a builder with a company in Ireland who is also insured for doing contract work in the U.K. would be able to do restoration work in france? would we be covered by insurance? what would the implications be? Would be glad of any information on this.
Val_2
Ask to see a copy of his insurance policy and see what the limits are regarding working outside the UK or Eire. Normally french work is insured and guaranteed in France as the policies are tailor-made to suit the artisan and his trades and have certain limits. Don't forget that using a non-french TVA registered artisan means you cannot offset any CGT claims you may have when selling your property if it is not your principal residence here and you are submitting ayearly tax return to that effect. One of the big problems of using non-french registered workers is in case of accidents where you as the employer would be liable for all medical costs and even future compensation costs in cases of invalidity or death.
