friend of stouby
Dumb question #79Does anyone have experience or knowledge of what happens if you use a Ballon Rechauffage Mixte (hot water cylinder with a heat exchanging coil) without connecting up the coil system? We want to install the cylinder and use it only with the immersion heater system for the first 6 months and when at a later date we have the boiler installed, connect into the coil section then.Regards, Jamie
Sevenup
I don't know the answer but it might be woth reading through this thread.http://forums.livingfrance.com/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=285&MessageID=190289&TopicPage=
Simon
I use one of these in just the way you indicate. Although this is a UK company, there are others around viessmann for example.RegardsSimon
Michael
Carry on Jamie, there is no problem. If water did come out of the primary connections it would prove the ballon coil was leaking anyway. etc.Happy days.
Thumper
Yes, it chould be OK. The secondary indirect coil that you'll be using when you plumb in the boiler should be completely independent, and as Michael suggests, if it does leak, then it will prove that your cylinder isn't as indirect as it should be. Ideally, you don't want the water from your boiler mixing with the stuff in your ballon.

powerdesal
Just a small point which may be obvious anyway, make sure the indirectcoil connections are not blanked off as the air inside will expand whenthe heater is in use on electric, if that expansion cannot be releasedthe coil could split. friend of stouby
....and moving on from the unused coil, is there a rule of thumb for the cylinder size as they are used in the real world? or are the guides that are stuck on to many of the new cylinders fairly accurate?ThanksJamie
