Le_Jars
Has anyone here built one from scratch? We have a vast quantity oflarge 'pebbles' around us that all of the houses here are built fromand we want to replace a small (2 feet high) fence with a stone wall. The stones are very round and not at all 'stack-able' so any tips onhow to go about this would be great. I want to mimic the 'herringbone'pattern that builders have used in barn and garden walls around us ifthat's at all feasible. If not, just a pebble and mortar wall will befine! Gardian
Build a concrete block wall first (just like the UK, they come in all shapes and sizes) and then clad one or both sides of it with your pebbles or rock. You can use some cement sparingly to bind the whole thing together and thus give an almost dry stone wall effect.A purist or pro will perhaps gasp in horror, but it has worked for me and looks quite good and for something only 2' high, it'll be quite robust enough.
