Juswundrin
HiWe want to replace the lintels over two small windows in the garage; currently in wood which looks in worse condition than it actually is, but the windows themselves are rotten so we thought it's easier to replace lintels & windows together.Anyway, does anyone have an opinion on the pros & cons of wood vs concrete? Presumably wood has a potentially shorter lifespan, but if treated properly should see us out anyway? And I assume it's a macon for concrete and menuisier for wood, or would a macon actually do both? The vaguest indication of relative costs would be great, too (each window is only about 50cm wide, 30 high). Many thanks for any help. La Guerriere
Immediate question is how wide are they, and are the walls brick, block or stone whatever ?
Juswundrin
JimAbout a metre long, 6 or 8 cm "high", and the (stone) wall is 50cm.Thanks
thunderhorse
FWIW, wood looks so much nicer. When we had a new bathroom window put in, the mason brought an old oak gatepost and slotted that in for a lintel. Cleaned up and lasured, it looks beautiful. But you could always use concrete... Juswundrin
HiYes, we've decided to go with wood. Some Brits in the village have used concrete and, oooh, it's been talked about :D
