silver lining...does it really work to keep roof cool

We are planning to convert space up in the roof into a bedroom. I want

to use  that silver backed insulatation as I believe it will make

the bedroom cooler in summer - our last house was so hot in the attic

roof in summer that the ceiling was red hot to touch. Keeping the heat

in is not so important as the room is small enough to heat economically

when it gets very cold, which isnt for long. Silver stuff is very

expensive - has anyone noticed its had a good effect in reflecting heat

and keep roof areas cool? Would be grateful for any advice as price

really is an issue on this one. Thanks

Because our kitchen area has lots of windows we insulated roof with expensive foam stuff covered with silver insulation. However it doesn't seem to be any cooler than areas we have insulated with much cheaper laine de verre.

hi

ok.....yes it does...invented by the french for the space shuttle ! But saying that the cheap stuff doesn`t , if headroom is not a problem then go with the rockwool ,but if you need that extra 100mm then it`s the only way to go ......... but you will only get what you pay for... the cheap silver-foiled bubble wrap is ok for keeping a pizza warm and nothing else.

Yes, we lined our south facing roof with the expensive silver sandwich iso and it's definitely cooler than the bedroom behind which just has 200ml laine de verre - but not if the veluxes are left open!!
