powerdesal
All my ground floor is tiled, different tiles in each room and all of them are 'yuk' but solid, level and undamaged. I intend to retile all through on top of the existing tiles. It struck me that it would be a good idea to lay something like a layer of high density polyurethane type insulation on the existing tiles and tile over that. I have the spare headroom .. but...is it a practical idea, has anyone done this sort of thing and what is available in France.I guess I'm a bit of an insulation - nut particularly when I think of future energy costs ( they are not going to go down!!!!).Shortening affected doors I can handle without a problem and I did think that power circuit wiring across the door ways could be accomodated by a slot in the insulation to take the gaine.Any thoughts / comments will be very welcome.Regards
Poppy
In the UK they have insulated tile backing boards readily available. They are usually made of polystyrene faced with fibreglass and cement. Brand names which come to mind are Knauf aquapanel thermal and Marmox. We have tried in vain to get them in France, but you might be lucky and your local builders merchant might order them. If you need a large quantity a UK supplier might arrange transport. Underfloor electric heating suppliers recommend them for undertile heating, where you place a heating mat on the insulation board and tile directly on top.
