alnmike
Could you offer some advice - what permission is needed to make acorner of our downstairs bedroom into an ensuite with shower, sink andwc? Also - do we need to tell anyone that we are installing abath in place of an existing shower? Thanks
Cassis
I stand to be corrected but as I read it you don't need any permission to make changes of this kind within an already habitable area.http://www2.equipement.gouv.fr/formulaires/docassocies/50014.pdf
alnmike
Cassis - thanks very much. Do you think my taxe d'hab or fonc would change?
Cassis
It don't think so, given it is already part of the habitable area and you don't have to declare the works.

Miki
I had always thought that the ones who want to know these things, wouldsee that as an improvement to the house and thus want the extra revenueas such? But as ever, the French will say nothing and leave it to thenext owners to put it on the form when they are asked to fill one in tooffer the size and quality of the said abode. BJSLIV
I think Miki's answer is spot on. Bathrooms, WCs etc are one of the indicators of the "quality" of the house which has a direct impact on the tax situation the more bogs and baths you have the higher the tax you should pay. BJSLIV
As I said Miki's answer is spot on. Unless you anybody wants to complete a voluntary H1 declaration which is of course the right thing to do...........

Gyn_Paul
How, exactly, would it change? Surely the T d' H is calculated on the sqm of habitable space isn't it ? So if you use a corner of a bedroom you've not altered the total.I'm confused, me p

Cassis
I thought it was calculated on habitable space as well. I await enlightenment - someone will explain!

Miki
Actually I did know I was right and part of the reason being, in 4 places wehave bought and lived in, not one we bought was up to date as far astaxe hab etc and the way the house actually was. But, in everyonewe have lived in, not that long after our settling in...bosh, in thepost comes the old H1. Guaranteed, we will fill in as the Frenchwill do...average this, average that (does anyone live in a lovely topcondition nothing to do maison but mention all facilities [:)] )The taxe hab has increased on every occasion for us once we have filledin the H1. Sure when put in bathroms etc, invariably we will go a whileuntil we declare.....well, when in Rome and all that !!

Cassis
Oh Bugger. We filled in an H1 when we finished the conversion of the upstairs last year. Of course, that was following a permis de construire. Oddly, in 2 years here we have had no request for taxe d'hab though we have had taxe foncière. Could this be to do with the 2 years free grace if you declare your works on time? Or is it a bureaucratic oversight? I've checked with the local Trésor and they say we owe nobody anything local tax-wise.
Miki
Cassis,You know that film where they say "People willcome".........................well "Taxe Hab will come" and my bet isin the next two months. The first year is normal to not receive it, as the previous ownerwould have paid it, the second should see it arrive if not....are youperhaps being billed with Taxe Professionnelle instead ? If not, again, then "The Bill will come" [;-)]
