alnmike
We currently have a wood, earth floored corrugated iron roof'garage', woodstore and shed on our land. Do you think we would need toget any permission to rebuild with a concrete floor and brick walls. Also a proper flat roof that might be used as a terrace? thanks asever,
BJSLIV
Impossible to say, it would depend on the position. however if you are replacing an eyesore with something classier the answer would tend more towards yes than no. If you would be overlooking a neighbouring property, that would also be a consideration.
alnmike
Thanks. It would not be overlooking any neighbours. It is visible from the cyclepath next to the house only.
Poppy
If I was you who ask at Mairie, if not a permis a declaration of work may be necessary. Better to obtain permission than have to knock new building down.
Dick Smith
Yes, ask the Maire (or maire's secretary) by all means, but get the proper permission as well. There probably won't be any objection, but it may still take a few months. Much better to be legal - or in the future anyone could complsin and as Poppy says, you are in the demolition business. Tony F Dordogne
We wanted to do something similar - it depends on the size (sq metreage of the floor) and whether the maire accepts that what you're doing is a replacement rather than a new build.Get the maire/adjoint up to have a look and talk it through with them, our maire decided it was a replacement - actually we had demolished three illegal buildings first - and though they were illegal, the replacement was not - French logic rules! Poppy
Forgot to mention earlier that no permission might result in problems if you sell.

montagrier
What would a french person do???
Poppy
Probably just go ahead and rebuild, they dont want to increase the rates bill. Main problem will be on sale of property. In the past French haven't sold (although this has changed over the last few years)just lived in property till they died and house passed on to relatives.
