richyrich
I've been trying for hours to change my front door lock, without success. It's a typical clylinder lock, but alas no key!!. I have removed the possitioning screw, but the swivel bit in the centre, seems to catch, preventing me from pushing or pulling the lock throughthe door. Has anyone got any ideas? Should i get a lock smith? a friend suggested drilling it, but i sense this is a precision task, and could cause more problems if i get in wrong.Any help much appreciated. BJSLIV
I think you have to turn the barrel slightly, with the key, so that it will then slide out. Have you got a key that vaguely fits, it might be enough.Otherweise send for a locksmith.

Jonzjob
Chris behave! The lock has a centre part that needs the key to be about 10 degrees from vertical. Then it lines up with the hole and the barrel slides out. If you can't do that then I think that option 2 is much less messy than 3! And quieter!!! Smiley
The lock you are referring to is called a euro barrel (keyhole shaped) If you want to remove it yourself, take a 6mm drill and drill right the way through at the bottom of the keyhole shape. Try the key you have and the tumblers should drop out If not, up the drill to an 8mm and then tap the lock sharply till they drop out. The key can then be used to turn the barrel and remove.Make sure you put some safety glasses on as the tumblers and springs can fly out at you.Alternatively if you are not confident about doing this, then call a locksmith!
