I find French people can be very disrespectful behind each other's backs - they like to gossip about their neighbours as people do the world over. I've been told about Mme X being as thick as a plank, M Y being a miserable old goat, etc. They just aren't open with their feelings to strangers and don't often express them in public to an audience. French forums are full of people slanging each other off - many a lot worse than on here. Actually, to contradict what I said earlier, I've attended plenty of meetings full of disrespect with people talking over each other, threatening to walk out, etc!
