johnycarper
We have sold our house and go to sign paperwork next month so after cooling off period its definite. My question is we have sold our house at a agreed sterling price to a couple in uk,is it possible as long as they obviously pay their tax in France that they pay us in Stirling in the uk.This would save us and them having to transfer money at a cost to both parties and as long as the notaire knows the agreed price to collect his fees in theory I cannot see its illegal or any form of tax avoidance.I think I already know the answer just thought I would sound out others views. mint
Best ask your notaire first. Not all notaires would do this. When we were going to buy from an English couple in sterling, we discussed this with a notaire recommended to us on this very site. However, in the end, we didn't buy that particular house because the owner changed his mind about selling to us.Best just to clear it up with your notaire first of all because it's not much fun to get to completion date only to be told "no can do". johnycarper
Thanks for that and we had planned to go see the notaire and ask just wondered if anyone had done it.
mint
JohnnyC, the person who gave me the details of the notaire, did buy a house in France in sterling. However, I haven't seen him on the forum for quite a while now. He bought in the Charente dept (No 16).
johnycarper
Thanks again and I cannot see the problem as long as the notaire knows the price in euros and they pay the tax it does not really make a difference to them, but I am sure someone will say differently. nomoss
We were paid in Sterling into our UK account for a house we sold some years ago, but I think this may no longer be possible, as the current regulations require the money to be sent to the Notaire's account by bank transfer, and no other method is accepted.http://www.paris.notaires.fr/actualites/virements-bancaires-obligatoires-la-fin-des-cheques-chez-les-notaires
johnycarper
Just thought I would give an update went and saw the notaire and he is happy for the buyers to pay us straight into our English bank in sterling, very pleased with that as will save all the hassle of getting euros exchanged and sent to uk. Obviously the buyers have had to pay the deposit in euros and as that will more than cover any tax liabilities he was happy.
Loiseau
Glad you have got that sorted, JC.I was going to reply to say that MANY years ago we sold our holiday cottage to other Brits and had the payment made in sterling, but I think it was in the form of a UK banker's draft that they handed over to us in front of the notaire at the signing.Angela
