Garyrcross
I need to source French oak in the Basse Normandie area. Does anyone know of wood yards or mills in the area please. I have full facilities for dimensioning etc. Thanks Gary
Dick Smith
Yes - try Lonlay L'Abbeye; actually it's in Orne, but not far from Manche. It's a few klicks east of Mortain. Loads of oak, some seasoned some green. Now - whereabouts in BN are you, and how about a small business arrangement in which you plane up some small quantities of timber for a consideration? Garyrcross
We are south of Vire, just outside a small village called Gathemo. My workshop is the UK at the moment although I will be moving equipment out once the workshop is built. I need the oak for the doors/window frames. Dick Smith
I know Gathemo, and so does someone who doesn't post here any more. We are about 10k south. Try Lonlay L'Abbaye, it's pretty comprehensive and does sell en detail, I am told. It's part of my plan to get some timber from them the next time I am over. Garyrcross
I'm going over twice next month, my intention is to buy the oak, store some at our barn, take what I need back to the UK, build the necessary and transport back again. It'll probably be cheaper than buying in the UK. I do have a small planer/thicknesser that I could take over but it wouldn't be man enough for the larger timber. What do you mean by 'small' quantities.Gary
Dick Smith
The sort of lengths that I can get into a Volvo estate along with everything else we traipse back and forth!
