Le_Jars
Sorry to ask, as I know this gets asked a lot, but I need to build a pergola (5m x 8m). It's obviously not a living space, but as it's bigger than 5 x 4 do I need a permis?
expat paul
We asked the exact same question to our Mairie, after alot of head scratching they decided, as it didn't have a roof we needed nothing. Ask your local Mairie, maybe they have different regs.
Panda
HelloAm I completley mad, I though a pergola had a roof but no walls. I thought it was a shady garden space, just with 4 pillars type of thing, what's that then?Panda
Val_2
We have constructed a pergola this past week about 5m x 4m and no permission is required as it not a living space, has no sides or roof just the four pillars and cross memebers and does not encroach on anyone else. Get it covered with plants and no one will take any notice, plus they sell them flat pack inthe shops and I know many folks who have them in their gardens and I have never seen their DdT. Le_Jars
Thanks all. Yes, it's just a 4 pillared thing with struts across. I think I'll put in a permis though just in case.....
