MrCanary
I have touched on this subject before on another thread, so forgive me if this is a bit of repetition. Some of the ceiling beams in our French house have previously been painted and, due to their condition (shape) it will be nigh on impossible to get most of the old paint off, so..............my wife and I have decided to look at painting them ourselves.Does anybody know of a good paint that, effectively, does not look like paint? I guess something like a dark old oak matt finish. Is there anything on the market that will fit this bill? Thanks,Mel
Alex H
Bondex - comes in a range of shades including 'rustic oak' which I have used herehttp://www.alenda.freeserve.co.uk/house14_7.htmlIt also did the front and end door in the previous photosA bit thin to work with, it will eventually cover paint - 3 coats covered thishttp://www.alenda.freeserve.co.uk/house_first_4.htmlon some of the beams [:D]
joidevie
Try wax.. I've happily painted it onto beams (with a thick brush) and many tints available.. Great applied with a brush in hot weather! Will be a number or tubs and make sure you keep to the batch number..

Mr Coeur de Lion
Get a grinder, some 40 grit paper and sand the paint back to bare wood. It'll be worth it in the long run.
