Gyn_Paul
Under Floor Heating, that is..Does anyone have an underfloor heating system topped with anything but concrete? I've recently looked at a website (the manufacturer's of the triple pipe system, actually) which proposes topping the pipes (fitted to the pre-formed styrofoam forms)with a float of 18mm flooring grade chipboard. I'd always regarded a dense product like chipboard as quite a good insulator, and I can't believe it wouldn't warp or twist. Anyone done this, or am I going to be a pioneer?p
Anton Redman
Cannot see why it would warp or twist given its construction but it still seems the total opposite of everything I have read or seen
La Guerriere
It does seem a bit strange, but might be ideal for upstairs.....
Cat
I'll have to check with Mr Cat, but I'm fairly sure that our UFH is topped by a layer made of a special concrete/fibreglass mix. Or perhaps that's the norm nowadays?
Jacqui Too
Hi We have just built a new dormer bungalow and put in UFH on the downstairs only and rads upstairs. The only reason we put rads upstairs was because the client wanted them as it will have very little use and rads were quicker to install.Had we wanted UFH upstairs, we could have done and still had chipboard flooring plus carpet no problems.See this link: http://www.underfloorheatingdiy.co.uk/images/in_suspended_timber.pdf Jackie
