Bannon
Finally, we've got round to doing out our last room - the end of a five year renovation project. Phew! We are thinking of painting the fireplace in order to brighten it up a bit but the trouble is it's made of a sort of chalk. We've tried cleaning it but it remains rather stained - hence the painting option but what type of paint given it's a fire place and one that's made of chalk (I think)Cheers guys. Albert the InfoGipsy
Chalk as in lumps of soft white stone held together with mortar, or a plastered finish that looks like chalk?Anyway, try looking into lime wash, basically a dilute version of plastering lime. The links below are to British sites, but St Astier is a big French manufacturer of lime products.http://www.cornishlime.co.uk/html/products.php?category=47http://www.mikewye.co.uk/chart.htmhttp://www.lime.org.uk/lime_products/Limewash.asp
mark224
Just get the sand paper out and bring it back to how it should LookYou will be surprised How easy it is .Just gets a bit dusty If it has any holes or indents just use French plaster to fill them it will dry the same colour
