Gyn_Paul
If one has to concrete an odd-shaped room where it is not possible to lay the damp proof membrane in one single piece, is it acceptable just to overlap the plastic - and if so, by how much - or must I fold and tape the joints together? My builder just shrugs and says whichever you like (accompanied by the usual shrugging of the shoulders).p
Nick Trollope
You can buy a suitable tape (like posh/expensive duct tape) from builders merchants, so I'd guess that it is alright to join it.I'd reckon that an overlap could leech water through the join - not that it would be particular significant...IANAB, BTW! Gyn_Paul
IANAB ?? Don't you mean nobody pays you to B, Nick !?Given that I'm about to slap 9cms of polystyrene on top of the new concrete, I suspect that for quite a considerable time it will be wetter above the membrane than below it!For info, the visqueen (makers of DPM in the UK) site I eventually discovered, says you can if you overlap by 150mm and seal the two layers with their own (probably cost an arm and a leg) double-sided tape. The thing I'm not looking forward to is trying to seal the DPM around the 4 collections of H,C, and waste pipes in various parts of the floor: I think when I'm done rather a lot of that ubiquitous orange tape will be in evidence !p
