PaulT
In the kitchen of our house in France there is a window that we would like to change to French Doors. Do we need planning consent for this?If so, is this from the Mairie or from those on high?ThanksPaul
Clair
At the very minimum, you need to complete a déclaration préalable, as you are changing the outside appearance of the building.'les travaux sur construction existante qui en modifient l’aspect extérieur doivent être précédés d’une déclaration préalable.'You can get the form from the mairie or from this page: http://www.urbanisme.equipement.gouv.fr/rubrique.php3?id_rubrique=299If there are other aspects to the area (conservation area, near a church...), you may need other forms. powerdesal
Damn. I have just checked the form and it seems that you have to wait a month befor the work can be done.I was hoping to convert the existing back door into a window (bottom half blocked in) during my next 3 weeks leave. Do you think I will be likely to get "instant approval" from the Maire or is the month "cast in tablets of stone"
Clair
The new rules are strict on the timeline for the official reply and if they do not contact you within a month for more info, you have a tacit agreement to go ahead.
powerdesal
Thats how I read it Claire, but as I am only in France for 3 weeks its a potential job stopper.

powerdesal
Not possible Paul, the door is going to be recycled into a new back door opening once I have made the right hole in the 12inch thick stone wall.
