Non-architect drew plans for planning application - normal/commonplace?

Hi

My first posting on this site.  My partner and I are in the process of buying a plot of land with planning permission already granted.  It turns out that the plans drawn up for the planning application were not done by an architect but by the wife of the local mason.  The plans were then checked and approved by an architect before being submitted.  We wish to make some modifications plus we will need detailed plans before commencing work (some of which we will do ourselves).

So, we were wondering if this is normal practice?  Is this person likely to be able to produce the detailed plans we will need?

Thank you!

Mog

If you are going for the full Permis de Construire and the project is over 170m² then you must have a french registered architect involved with both plans and paperwork. Anyone can do the plans for the lesser Préalable and de Construire it its under that limit.
