Ancre's de Mur

Are you talking about wall ties?  If so, you could try your local "ferraille" chappie who has the bars and end bits.  Ours were fitted and heated to tighten them and the house hasn't budged in years !  They were known as "tirants" though - but perhaps we aren't talking about the same thing ! !

Sounds like the same thing although the ones I have seen are tightened using large connecting nuts. As we are replacing the roof and making several alterations to the structure (door openings/windows) I thought it prudent to intall a couple of Ancre's at 1st floor level to stabilise things just in case.  I'll have a look around for a Ferraille unless anyone can suggest any other sources.

Thanks

Yes Dave the're the ones. I have also seen them with letters of the alphabet, presumably to reflect the name of the owner. I guess people caled Ian or Irene would stick to the X though!!  The Ancre in your pic looks new- did you source it or was it supplied with the house?
