oldgit72
Does anyone know where I can buy these? Do you have to go to a specialist to get them made to your own spec or do any of the major DIY stores sell them in different sizes? We are in the Charente(16)
Callie
Are you talking about wall ties? If so, you could try your local "ferraille" chappie who has the bars and end bits. Ours were fitted and heated to tighten them and the house hasn't budged in years ! They were known as "tirants" though - but perhaps we aren't talking about the same thing ! ! Ron Avery
If you are talking about the supports for a stone wall on the exterior of a block wall, you have to make them yourself from 10mm steel rod. Just bend one end at a right angle.

As we are replacing the roof and making several alterations to the structure (door openings/windows) I thought it prudent to intall a couple of Ancre's at 1st floor level to stabilise things just in case. I'll have a look around for a Ferraille unless anyone can suggest any other sources. Thanks

BIG MAC
have you considered Helically wound stainless bar (Known as Heli-bar in the UK) These can be epoxy or cementitiously grouted and can be cranked if needs be.http://www.helifix.co.uk/
oldgit72
Yes Dave the're the ones. I have also seen them with letters of the alphabet, presumably to reflect the name of the owner. I guess people caled Ian or Irene would stick to the X though!! The Ancre in your pic looks new- did you source it or was it supplied with the house?
