Using hemp?

Has anyone experience on using hemp plaster? I have been told that 4 inches of hemp is equivalent insulation properties to fibreglass rolls? Applications and any other information required i.e. how thick can each coat be applied?, consistency of mix? type of float to be used? (wood or steel) cost immaterial as this medium suits my requirements. But saying that how much does it cost?

thanks[:D]

I don't know about hemp plaster, but I once posted information about "ecofriendly" insulation which included rolls of compressed hemp.  Copied from an article in Rustica magazine. I've searched but can't find the post.

All were very expensive compared with rockwool etc.

My understanding is the batts are fixed to the walls etc and then skimmed over in the traditional way with lime plaster. It is not added to the mix, which if I read your post correctly sounds like what you are suggesting.

There is stacks of information on the subject on the web, one company I looked at.

Hello, don't want to give you information overload but this should be a good starting point, finished off with some forum views on the subject.  Hope this helps.  It is something I considered myself but my main consern at the moment is actually making the place dry and water tight.  All the best!
