peteone
[8-)] I have been told that if you sell your house within 5 years of purchase, you have to pay some sort of tax to the French government .Has anyone any info on this ? it would be nice to know. Thanks Peter.
BJSLIV
Only if its a newbuild, or counted as such due to very major renovation (Eg a barn conversion). If it is the first sale of a newbuild then VAT at 19.6% is deducted from the sale price, less any VAT you paid during the construction process. You also pay Capital Gains Tax if its not your main residence. Do you fall into either of these categories?

AnOther
I have owned house for 3 years perminent residence.
If this has been an official and legitimate 3 year permanant residence then there should be no problem however if not then you may face some difficulties. Have you been completing a French tax return for instance ?
