johnycarper
we have a friend just moved to france and has been told by a fire retailer in his area that he cannot fit a insert log burner himself as it has to be installed by experts and then a certificate issued for insurance.I did not think this is the case as other friends of ours have done the job themselves, can anyone tell me what the regs are.many thanks,

woolybanana
inserts are dangerous things and need care with their insertion or you might burn down the house
Quillan
Also if your friend has done the right things like register for tax he/she will get a tax rebate against the installation of the insert. Its quite a bit I believe, I am sure somebody can give you an idea of the percentage you get back as I can't remember of the top of my head. mint
Used to be 50% of the cost of the appliance but I believe that it's now gone down to 40%. The house must be the householder's principal residence for the rebate or credit to be applied .
