richyrich2
Hello. I want to insulate our loft, and am becoming a little confused with the amount of products avaiable, and which is best for our situation. Basically, loft has concrete floor, low pitch roof, approx 50m2 of useable storage space. (max height 1m20) I don't want to spend a fortune, as the area wont get used frequently. With the loft hatch closed, the difference in temp is massive, suggesting mimimal heat loss from below. It would however be good to use this space on occasions, and not loose all the heat through the roof.Been looking at various solutions, for insulating between the rafters, and was wondering if anyone could offer any reccomendations.choice 1. http://cgi.ebay.fr/3-99-m-ISOLANT-9-COUCHES-435-gr-...choice 2. regular 30mm sheets of polystyrene, wedged between rafters( cheapest option).choice 3. Celetex or kingspan type board( expensive?).Any recommendations/ suggestions?Personally don't fancy working overhead with the itcy stuff.Thanks.long link shortened by a mod
powerdesal
From your last sentence, can we assume that you are looking to insulate the ceiling of the room below the loft? or do you mean insulate the sloping faces of the loft immediately below the roof tiles / slates ? richyrich2
Yes. Want to insulate the slopping roof (inside) with minimal loss of space below. The roof is metal, but from the inside is battened off with wooden planks supported on joists 12cm deep. Hope to initially insulate between joists or cover entirely with aluminium insulation, and then batten over with cheap cladding at a later date. Thanks
Framboise
Our huge grenier is fully insulated with that tinfoil bubblewrap stuff (the highly grade one) onto batten strips, it was then plasterboarded between the beams, plastered and painted. It has made a huge difference in both heat and sound insulation. Perhaps if this is only a storage area rather than useable living space this might be rather OTT?
