Mr Coeur de Lion
Stupid idiot that I am.Any ideas where to get a replacement and an idea of ease of installation and cost? It's only a small one, heats a room the size of 16m²
Clair
Check your Household insurance, just in case accidental glass breakage is covered. There's this specialist company dealing with replacement glass (never dealt with them personally): http://www.verre-insert.fr/web/index.phpIt seems simple enough to do. Ejc
most bricos either carry it as stock or can get it in and cut to size for you, just take a template in and they'll do it for you.
mint
Don't know the answer, Richard, but I just want to commiserate. I expect you'd have to know the make and model and try the manufacturer or the dealer.
Mr Coeur de Lion
Thanks all, particularly to sweet for her commiserations :)I'm a daft idiot, I put a piece of timber plank in and I though it was wedged in properly, but when I closed the door, It cracked the glass in 3 points. So much for using scrap wood to save money on proper firewood lol
Gastines
Happened twice to us in 7 years. cost 240euros but house insurance covered it . Mirroitiers d'Ouest hold it in stock. I got it in Mr Brocolage and it cost a tad over 100€. The size wasnt huge I think it was about 400 x 300mm. Maybe a wee bit squarer on reflection but anyway, they seemed to be the cheapest around here. Good luck with it though.

Mr Coeur de Lion
Well, I got the meat from Intermarche and you know how in the fridge section they put some dog food next to the human food, well I'm guessing this was mixed up between the two sections. The dogs loved it though.I wondered why it was so cheap.Apart from that, every other meal I've cooked has been a success :)
buelligan
Poor you! But,IIRC, you've had six now; taps, coffee, laptop....toffees, woodburner and
Um, I accidentally cooked some dog food for dinner last night (don't ask). Does that count for a new set of three?
So, unless you're going for an ambitious nine[:-))], or (Lord forbid), considering emulating Herakles, you've nothing more to worry about. Would it be wrong to say that, speaking as a long standing vegetarian, your last trial has left me with just a touch of schadenfreude! Mr Coeur de Lion
Thanks buelligan, I have no intention of going for 9. 6 is more than enough.I feel I can live again now lolOh and the toffees arz a long standing disaster lol
sid
One of our friends here in the village broke the glass in their woodburner last Friday. A visit to the local builders merchant/plumber with the dimensions and the glass was ready for collection later the same day having been cut to size; cost 30€. The next nearest source would have been Mr Bricolage where the cost was 32€. They both commented that a log rolling onto the glass can cause the glass to break. A bit frightening that, especially if it happens in the middle of the night! I've noticed that not all woodburners have a protective "fence" at the front. Fortunately ours has.Sid Smug
mint
Hey, what's this about toffees? How can you have a disaser with toffees?Do you mean they stuck to your dentures or something and, when you tried to remove the toffees, your dentures got broken?Well, what then??? phylisbide
We did the same thing with a too - long log and took the door into Weldom where they cut a new piece of glass to size. It is relatively expensive because it is fire-proof quality, obviously. OH did a similar thing to my windscreen on the way back from the brico with some long lengths of wood - saw a gendarme when driving with boot open so pulled in and slammed the boot down - trip then required to Brive to find the windscreen shop (eventually found it at the other side of the town ) and a wasted afternoon waiting for it to be fitted..... Mickie Hill
Bit of a scam in France for stove glass it seems.Check out the UK cost for made to measure fireproof glass here.............http://www.fastglassdirect.co.uk/custom-glass.html

Mr Coeur de Lion
lol well the famous Everton mints are mints on, the outside and toffee in the middle.Apparently there was an old sweet shop near the ground and toffee girls would hurl them out to the crowd in the stands.Anyway, no disasters today and even Everton managed to win too!
