frexpt
Just been quoted a basic daily rate of 550€ by a registered French joiner. [:-))] Apparently, this is partly because of registration costs and in particular the 10 guarantee that comes with his work. Any thoughts, please? devilsadvocate
That sounds expensive compared to what we have paid. Is that just the labour charge? That would be around 70€ an hour, about twice the amount I'd expect! As for p***-taking, undoubtedly there will be some artisans who do, just as some of the Brits artisans do! I've found most of the French artisans to be honest, hard-working and reasonably-priced.If you don't like the devis you can try someone else. frexpt
Yep, labour only. We certainly will be getting other quotes, but I just wanted to put a feeler out and establish what a fair rate might actually be.

Polly
Just a thought, but is this for one guy working on his own, or a firm comprising Xn° workmen?Your OP doesn't make this clear.

RicandJo
I still rather suspect this joiner won't be working on his own unless he's making cabinets or some such. The labour rate will be his own labour plus any labourers he brings with him to help......
