WendyG
We are having to replace the wooden steps on an outside staircase and are debating whether to buy the wood in France or UK. They would be 2" boards attached to metal frame by bolts at each end of the board..Would the wood be cheaper in UK or France - we will probably treat it ourselves anyway but I had a feeling that somewhere I had read that all French wood is treated because of the termite problem - as I right or am I wrong?Any advice gratefully received.WendyG
BIG MAC
The wood that's there already I presume came from France and has served it's pupose. French Oak from Scierie is relatively economic and there are numerous treatments available to soak the planks in (I use an old plastic tarpaulin pour preservative ove rthe wood lying on it then fold it up and leave for a week or so, seems to impregnate quite well.
