Manon
I am trying to work out a fireplace design with only partial information and can't find what I need on the Franco Belge website. We have ordered a Gascon 11 stove which is 524cm deep and 681 wide. Does anyone know approximately what sort of gap it should have all round it ? Thank you ! AnOther
D&O's site is of course UK based and the requirements for France may not be the same, have a look here:http://www.poujoulat.fr/pro_doc_tech_dtu_reg.asp
Patf
I was once told ( by someone at Leroy Merlin ) 15cms between the back of the stove and the wall. But as it's related to insurance, I would ask your insurance agent.
NickP
The most essential thing is having a fire proof surround, Our Fireplace is Limestone; and has a brick lining which is considered to be fire proof surrounding the wood burner, having just measured ours; the gap at the back is about 12 inches, the gap at the sides is about 24 inches. If you do have a big space at the side it's very tempting to fill the void with logs, beware they do get very hot if they touch the frame of the fire. Also it goes without saying that the register plate that surrounds the flue is at least fireproof plaster board, if possible get a metal one. AnOther
I would ask your insurance agent.
With respect Patf he/she is probably the last person I would ask, insurance agents sell insurance and frequently don't know the rules appertaining to that [blink]
Patf
Point taken AO.The person at Leroy who said 15cms also said that if you had a fire caused by the stove and claimed on insurance they would check how close the stove was to the wall before paying out.But other factors would come into this too (as others have said, material used to line the walls and ceiling etc.)So - ask an expert!
