Théière
Look for signs of wood dust as the blighters exit, no dust no bugs.
John Brown
Hi 4barewalls,I'm no expert, but I would try enclosing the area that been attacked with white paper, that will catch any woodworm dust / excrement that falls from the beam.Any sign of dust particulary in small spots indicates live woodworm.I've seen implants that are fixed along the beam that give ultra long term protection but I'm not sure of the manufactureAll of the woodworm I've come across in Oak has been superficial and no longer active after treatment with xylo......good luckJohn
Loiseau
I remember with our first house, looking anxiously at a very woodworm-riddled huge main oak beam, and the carpenter reassuringly sticking his penknife blade in to prove to us that it only went 1 inch deep. So if it's oak, don't lose toooo much sleep over it.AngelaPS That was more than 40 years ago, and the house is still standing.
woolybanana
Yes, I cut up some old oak beams today and the worm was only skin deep. No problem
