BIG MAC
One day a hundered years from now someone is going to have to repair that wall and will likely comment that it's repairable because of the restoration you have done, you have preserved something for posterity. Rob Roy
I wasn't that impressed when I saw the first picture - then scrolled down and realised it was the 'Before'![:$] Wow, a fantastic job done, congratulations!
NuBeginnings
Thank you for the compliments ;-) The next stage is the hard part 170m
sid
Until I saw this I thought that pointing was rather therapeutic, certainly here at "chez Sid" where it's fairly manageable; if I had 170m to repair like that I'd go bananas! Are you keeping a record of the sand/chaux total volumes?Keep up the good work! NuBeginnings
Almost finished the great wall renovation. Here are a few shots of the gates, the only job left for the gates is to shot blast and paint. The tractor belonged to our nearest neighbour who kindly helped us winch the pillar caps in to place.

BIG MAC
Have you considered pulling in a long and narrow (but tapering) shallow water feature to create an illusion of a drive and distance? or even a bed of slate chippings to get the same tapering perspective? NuBeginnings
For some reason when I post pictures using Safari they don't work when using Firefox they do. Any way here are the pics working Have you considered pulling in a long and narrow (but tapering) shallow water feature to create an illusion of a drive and distance? or even a bed of slate chippings to get the same tapering perspective? Have not got that far ahead in fact I never want to look at the bloody wall again. My small tractor has not been working and have been moving all the cement by hand. Very good work out for the back and shoulders but a spirit breaker !Will post more pics when finished. You will notice on the top of the old gates there was a flat zinc cover I belive there used to be a ball on top of the gates. I changed this on the new pillars to a sloping capping stone Slightly hard type of stone for the caps.

NuBeginnings
Thank you all for the words of encouragement. It has been a much greater project than I originally envisaged. We have about three more weeks of toil to go. 120m of drip course to lay plus two small more smaller courses on top of that then to finish it of we will lay a membrane on top of the last course and cap it of with white cement / lime mix.Its amazing how many locals have stopped by to comment on the great wall project. It is hardly surprising that the locals are being so complimentary ... you deserve to be praised.
It has been a much greater project than I originally envisaged.
Looking at the length of wall involved I can believe that.Well done.Sue
