Mac
How would I ask a plumber to cut and cap a pipe? We had a leak in a pipe that leads no-where (don't ask-previous french renovation) so the pipe can just be cut and sealed. I would presume that I would use couper but to seal or cap? The only word that comes to mind in bouchon but that's a cork?
Pads
Im sure some one will come with a better word but in my french plumbers book I have..... seal off =colmater. or sealing-plug = tamon or obturateurHope that helps ....
Pierre ZFP
To cut = couper as you say and just about any kind of stopper is a bouchon, not just a cork for wine but I know where you're coming from [B]What you need I think is BOUCHONS FEMELLES LAITON
Théière
Pad's your just being too polite, it's Tampon for obvious reasons [:$]
Mac
Thanks for the advice. I am sure we could do it ourselves but my husband + plumbing = disaster (no matter how small the job)
Pierre ZFP
Didn't mean to imply that you would DIY, if you don't fel comfortable doing it the get a pro in. I was just thinking that you could show your plumber a picture of the piece and he would get the idea of what you wanted. An alternative perhaps is to cap it with a stop-cock then if you wanted to use that water supply in the future (loo? shower? wash machine?) then it's simples to connect
Mac
Sorry Pierre ZFP-you've misunderstood my remark. I didn't read your reply like that. It's just that no matter how small the job-if it involves plumbing it ALWAYS goes wrong if I let my OH anywhere near it!!

Chancer
Why dont you have a go yourself, you might surprise yourself, I cant think of an easier plumbing job to start with.My sister does all the DIY jobs in her house and has tackled some major projects, her husband is happy to hold the end of a piece of wood for her etc and they make a good team.Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses, I hope one of your husbands strengths is to not harangue you publicly for your weaknesses.
