Fosse replacement

So the inspection happened and as we knew a fail. Obtained a couple of quotes and so the work to replace commenced.

The artisan arrived with the grease trap and a mini digger as there was confined access where it was to go and dug out for the trap. A few days later the new fosse and all the other bits arrived from the local builders merchant and a couple of days after that the artisan with his big digger.

He cut through the concrete path around the house to obtain access to the existing fosse connections and then started to dig the holes for the new installation.

What a state the old one was in – the top had sort of collapsed or it may have been hacked by someone to empty it who could not find the access cover (we had never had it emptied until now).

He was then on the phone to someone for ages and it turned out to the fosse inspector.

Turned out he had hit an ‘ancient’ fosse which was assumed might have been for cow slurry. The inspector said that there was only one solution and that was where the water from the fosse goes in to a filtration tank all made by Biorock.

So the new system was ordered and the previous equipment taken back – the new system on its own costing 2,000 euros more than all the equipment for the original proposed system (subsequently discovered I could obtain the system £1,000 cheaper via the Internet in the UK) and await the final bill for materials.

When it arrived the artisan seemed quite put out that it was made in Luxembourg!

In two days the system was installed and working.

The system requires no additives and can also be left for 6 months with no problems.

So just got to submit the various forms and hopefully will receive our compliance certificate very soon.
