ideas, recipes please for monkfish tails
DaveLister replied to menthe's topic in French Food and Wine
Not at all, in fact if I was to criticize it at all, I would say that it can have a tendency to become dry. Depending on how you cook it a good oil can really lift the flavour. Perhaps it would help if I said it's described as the poor mans lobster. Think of that texture and you'll have some idea. -

If your OH likes Chinese, you can always steam it with a little ginger and spring onion & serve with soy sauce. It is a very adaptable fish. -

I tend to find home killed prey is best. A piercing of the jugular is usually efficient.

Since 2015 all estimates are required to have attached a copy of the insurance certificate so he's already breaking the law. I'd look elsewhere if I was you.

I would suggest your first port of call would be whoever is going to be responsible for providing your healthcare. -

slightly odd situation re taxe d'amenagement
DaveLister replied to GMR-1979's topic in French Finance
I've just read that In September 2022 the system was changed and it's now up to the owner to declare once the works are finished on their personal împot account and then the taxe d'aménagement is calculated. You say the bill dates from mid 2022. I wonder whether of not someone in the tax office did a bit of housekeeping before the system changeover. -

DaveLister replied to GMR-1979's topic in French Finance
According to service-public.fr the taxe d'aménagement is a charge levied on the beneficiary of a planning permit, not the property itself. You should have received notice of the charge six months after the consent for the renovation was granted. If the amount was greater than 1500 euros this would have then been split into two bills, one due 12 months after the granting of the permis, the second 12 months later. Have you received any demands prior to this one? From what I can gather, the only way to cancel the charge is either by revoking the permis before the first payment is due or transferring it to someone else ( for example the new owner ). However, as you say that the permis has now expired I don't think either solution is going to help. Perhaps if you explain to the tax office that you didn't realise you had to cancel the permis in order not to trigger the charge they'll be understanding. Good Luck, https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F23263 -
Hi folks-just joined and I need some help

That was my first thought as well. However when Crabtree mentioned the EU passport I thought, perhaps, he could also be another poster with an Irish connection. -

Ah I see. Usually I put the UK post code as part of the Complémente d'address then just stick five zeros in the post code box. You said you appealed to the Consulate and you are now appealing to the Administrative Court of Nantes. Following the Consulate appeal did you appeal to the Deputy Director of Visas as I understand this needs to be done for a short stay visa before recourse to the court. Also, as Crabtree says, if you have an EU passport your wife can travel with you visa free. That hasn't changed. -

Sorry I'm confused. You can create a Télérecours account with a UK address. Are you saying the Tribunal will only look at your case if you pretend to be a French resident? -
Isaac Espinonza was shot twice whilst attempting to detain two men. It was night and he and his partner were in an unmarked car in plain clothes. The men were not detained at the scene and later Espinonza's partner ( the single eyewitness ) could only be 70% certain that the apprehended suspect was the shooter. The suspect however, before his arrest, confessed to his grandmother that he had killed someone by mistake. Harris has long been an opponent of the death penalty . She said that in her experience as a prosecutor, it was not a deterrent to crime. “Nobody ever stood there and was about to pull the trigger and then decided, ‘Hmm. Is this going to be life without the possibility of parole or the death penalty?’ ” As it happens Senator Dianne Feinstein ended up agreeing with her. Regarding this case, Harris is quoted as saying as recently as last Wednesday “I did what I believed was the right thing to do, and the killer of that officer will be in prison for the rest of his life.” Can't say the lady doesn't have principles.

my bad 😃 Very true which makes him all the more interesting don't you think?

I have never understood the mentality of the average republican. They will force a woman to give birth regardless of age/ability/ or the circumstances of conception then abandon said child to either go hungry of become the victim of gun crime. Can't argue with that. 😇

Admittedly not a French story but encouraging news for those with type 2 diabetes. https://www.theguardian.com/society/article/2024/aug/05/nhs-soup-and-shake-diet-puts-almost-a-third-of-type-2-diabetes-cases-in-remission
