  1. I try to see the best in everything. That said…there is no denying that France is ripping itself apart. Some (namely me) predicted that this was going to happen a few years back. It was always going to end this way. This is not Brexit…..this is very very bad. You should hear my French wife of 29 years. And our 3 French kids. They make me sound quite moderate. Laugh or cry ? A cul de sac in the UK does not sound so bad to me. Local pub and all that.
  2. Yes to all your points….probably worse in France. France is far far more dangerous than the Uk. Hence why the FN have gained power. French kids are generally out of control. I have three kids in education so I know the score. Teachers have had enough and a day does not go by in France that a teacher is attacked by kids or their parents. The stories I could tell you. Do Freach motorists do what ? Of course they do in between trying to kill you with their driving anger. In terms of renting a house….I have rented three times all over France in 27 years….never again. You will get mugged. Listen, it is the same sh#t in France as the UK it is just they have a different coloured flag. Pick a corner in the world you want to live in, build a bubble at get on with life. That is ALBF advice of the day. Dont give me this ´the UK is falling apart’. I don’t think it is. You want to see failing apart ?
  3. Good points. Brexit would never have happened with a second round of voting methinks. In terms of the French vote…..I still think/hope people will change their mind but maybe Macron has just pî55ed people off soo much that they want to put a final nail into his coffin of what has been a sh#t presidency. If that means FN then so be it. OH voted Ensemble and she detests Macron to his core. But she is not stupid. FN or the Melllychon left wing nutters will finish France forever.
  4. Sorry Mint…you know I don’t want to upset anyone. I just tell it how is. That’s me. For the OP. https://www.leboncoin.fr/f/locations/real_estate_type--1?locations=Bergerac_24100__44.85222_0.48573_5000_5000
  5. Do you watch French news ? Lol. Put Cnews/ BFM on right now. See what is going on. Its madness. A costly madness. France is really in the m#rdé politically. This is not going to blow over. This is the new order. When I go to the UK it’s like a breath of freash air. Which is why I guess (and yes I will say it again) more French live in the UK than British live in France. If you were French living in the UK you would be utterly mad to move to France. Belle France was lost 15 years ago. You don’t have day to day riots in the UK. Yes you have problems but not on the scale of France. Milton Kynes aint so bad. Anyway, your problems is not the current political crisis in France, it is global warming. And France is being hit very badly. The cost is unsustainable.
  6. I get your points..but we are dealing with two/three French relatives who have very serious health issues. From terminal cancer to dementia. Im just telling the OP how life is today in France. It is not good. A French person paying into the the system for 80 years and it is….quite…well…..awful. Imagine an expat/immigrant enduring this process. Everyone wants their two pence worth at their expense. Just saying.
  7. So life is tough in the UK and you want to move to the LBF in a town/area that is probably the most highly British populated area of France. It be like moving within the UK but to a foreign country that you have to jump through loads of hoops in order to be a legal resident. But you will still be an immigrant that needs to be removed. That makes no sense. But it is your call….me…..there are better areas to escape to in France. I would wait until the elections are over before making any decision to move to France. I think France is heading towards civil war. Certainly a market crash if FN get it. And they will. I think Milton Keynes is a safer bet.
  8. Ummm.. yes. But I can’t be bothered to write a life story. I live 10 minutes from two top general hospitals and 10 minutes from a very famous children’s hospital. I have been to all….and have had operations in two. Go back 15 years the healthcare was second to none. Today….you probably get mugged getting to the hospital. If you moved to our posh suburb of a popular city you will struggle to sign up to a doctor, forget dentist….dermatologist…..good luck with that. No chance. A new cardiologist centre is opening up and they are not taking on new patients. It has not even opened yet lol.
  9. I think living in France and all the joys it brings adds 20 years to your natural age. On that basis I am 71 years old.
  10. Dealing with two elderly French relatives…..I can tell you in France the situation is much the same as the UK in terms of healthcare. They are both very ill. One terminally. The cost is horrendous (care and everything else) and they have the finances to support themselves. Do you ? No, don’t do it. France is in a terrible place at the moment. Try and make best of the situation you have is my advice.
  11. Me too….accept I want to be kicked out. Getting too old for France.
  12. In my part of ‘Real France’ nobody cares where you are from and most seem to embrace all different nationalities. So many languages are spoken in our local Lidl…I can’t keep up. In fact, I don’t know what language to learn. The whole FN thing….I hate immigrants…comes from rural France….which is bizarre because they have no immigrants. Apart from the British….because they are only stupid enough to live there. Ha Ha.
  13. With nearly 30 years of skiing experience, I can tell you that British skiing tourists in France are not exactly the cream of the cream. Some, a lot, most ???…..are an embarrassment in the way they behave. Seriously, they think they own the resort and think they can do as they please. Getting shìt faced then fighting and shouting in the streets. Vomiting everywhere. So what the lady said does not surprise me one bit.
  14. I can’t answer that question. But you have to pay an abandonment for gas before you start using it then tax on the gas that you use. Then you have the yearly increases in gas…..11% increase in July. Then you pay 120 euros to have boiler serviced. So yeah, it’s more cost effective methinks. The installation costs I just write off. The money in the bank won’t make the money I save in energy costs in interest….if that makes sense. We intend to install 3 solar panels on the roof of a shed that I built….which will easily offset our energy costs of heating water and the home.
