cs
Hi All,I've just been told by a friend that once you reach your 60th birthday, you no longer have to pay the tax fonciere. Does anyone know if this is correct as that would be a real bonus ie we could afford an annual holiday !!Thanks in advance.
mint
i talked to a legal bod based in france recently about this. now i stand to be corrected but i think she said the age is 70, that you have to be french resident and that your income is also taken into account.no doubt someone out there will have the definitive info. new as i am to the forum, i am continually amazed at the depth and breadth of knowledge you can tap into from forum members
Suandpete
I'm afraid that you have to wait a bit longer - until your 75thbirthday! However if you are on a very low income you maybe able to get your Taxe d'Habitation reduced.....
mint
sudo you mean that it might be possible to have help with both your taxe fonciere AND taxe d'habitation? i won't get too excited yet as i don't know how "low" income might be defined!it's all yet food for thought. at this rate i am going to get mental indigestion very sooncheers
Suandpete
No I'm afraid not. I went with a friend on a low income(less than 6000 euros per year) who is 60 tomorrow - and they explainedto us that generally speaking, Taxe Foncière is based solely on thevalue of the house (in his case the bill is 700 euros)- your income isirrelevant and you have to pay it until you are 75. Taxed'Habitation on the other hand is means tested and you can get areduction no matter what your age is if you are on a low income.
