Where are the cheerleaders for Liz Truss now?

Not so long ago, when I posted a throwawy comment regarding liz Truss's performance as British PM, I was castigated, mocked, my very character and personality called into question.

Well, you will  know who you are so no need for me to name names😜

Schadenfreude?  Well, perhaps on this occasion, I will allow myself just a little!

Did I miss something here?

Can I just remind folks here that you all live in France where.....

1) We have no fuel to put in our cars...well not around ere and most areas of France.

2) There is a massive general strike planned next week which 'will' bring the country to a halt... if it goes ahead. I don't mean one of those wimpy ones they have in the UK. I mean a big one. All hell will break lose and cost all of us (those that pay tax BTW) a fortune.

France politically is in more of a mess than the UK.

Just saying 😀

Back to the Liz Truss discussion 😗

I was also castigated for suggesting that based on her performance as a minister she'd be useless as a PM, I don't feel smug just a sense of despair that the competence level in UK politics is so low. Sadly, a GE is still two years away so the country will sink further in the mire before it has a chance to recover.

Is France politically and socially in a worse mess than the UK ?

Looks like Truss is now PM in name only. I'm no fan of Jeremy Hunt but I think he made a good start this morning to calm the markets. Like him or loath him he's an experienced operator and, with luck, the party will STFU and let him and the other remaining grown ups navigate the troubled waters ahead. They won't be able to turn things around in time for the next election but they can hope not to be totally wiped out. As for Liz, she's probably breathing a sigh of relief. She can hide in No 10 deflecting all questions to her Chancellor and concentrate on her Instagram account.

And start her day listening to Bruce Springsteen and (perhaps not) drink champagne with her teenage daughters.  It's all true because ALLEDGEDLY this is all faithfully recorded in her social media account😂

"Allegedly, perhaps not" any chance of real facts?

100% ?

France politically and socially is in a terrible mess.

The country has fallen apart. It is bad.

I am guessing the many many French living in the UK would hedge their bets with staying in the UK than moving back to France.

Particularly as they could be unemployed in France and if they are high earners they don't want to pay french levels of tax.

You said in 'a worse mess'.

Of course the country has it's problems but compared to the UK it's well run.

I have not met one French person in the last 6 years who would agree with you on that point.

I don't think the media (TV or in the papers) would agree with you either.

When I go back to the UK now and again it is like a breath of fresh air....regardless of their problems.

Hmmm...naaa....France is in a worse space than the UK.

And how many of those French persons have lived in or even visited the UK?

I'll need a hip replacement soon and if I have it here I can choose when and where, in the UK you'll join an 18 month+ waiting list, you think that's better?

So why is there a reported healthcare crisis in France and hospitals and staff are on strike ? Even medical students are on strike in France !!!!

Around ere, you will struggle to get a specialist appointment without waiting a good 6-8 months. And I live in a city with three + hospitals.

It was not like that 10 years ago.

Sorry, I don't do social media so cannot check.  However, I have also read it in an interview she gave at the time of the leadership contest.  The champagne episode was also recounted by her; it was when she heard that she had won.

If you are an instagram fan, why not check up and enlighten us?

According to the pundits who bet;

According to political betting sites, Truss is 6/1 to lose her job this year. That price has actually stabilised from the 7/2 odds provided during the height of the government-triggered financial crisis in September. Still, it’s a long way from the 20/1 price gifted Truss at the start of her reign.

Meanwhile, the chances of her being ousted in 2023 continue to rise. Bookies have shifted that price from 7/4 (36.4%), to 5/4 (44.4%), to a new mark of 4/5 (55.6%).

Truss is now more likely to be booted out of No 10 in 2023 than she is to keep her job.
