The Queen

I'm quite surprised that not a mention of the Queens death has been posted here. As for me, well I'm a royalist so I feel rather sad at her passing and sincerely hope that King Charles has as successful reign as his mother.

The Queen was one of the few 'constants' in the ever changing world and the speed of her death from the meeting with Liz Truss on Tuesday has been a shock. It will alter the perception/tolerance of the Royals which I hope Charles accepts and understands otherwise the calls to become a republic will get ever louder.

Have seen some dreadful comments regarding the death of the Queen ranging from the fish and chip shop owner in Scotland revelling in her death through to a football pundit, Sinclair, virtually blaming her for racist attacks on black and brown people. Throw in comments by the NYT and some Argentinian commentator 'celebrating' with a glass of Champagne and you see a different side to people's behaviour that is quite despicable. Objecting to the monarchy for what ever reason is an individuals privilege but to use her death to spout political nonsense or to not consider the grief of the family and the millions of people who are offended by this behaviour is totally unforgivable. I'm mean enough to hope they are all  ostracised to the degree they deserve!

The chip shop lady is quite touched. If you look at the message boards in the windows of her shop she obviously subscribes to some of the more wacky internet conspiracies. Her use of the term 'Lizard Liz' comes, I believe, from a theory espoused by David Icke that the Royal Family are in fact shape shifting blood sucking aliens who's real form resembled lizards. Normally I suspect her rantings are ignored.

I'm afraid the poor lady needs help.

The outpouring of feeling over her passing shows the extent to which the Monarchy is held in high esteem. I hope it remains so. I think Charles will scale it back quite a bit though.

At the moment emotions are through the roof! The whole world is sympathetic towards Charles and the Royal family, well apart from a few nutters anyway!! Once the funeral is over it will be back to 'normal' in as much the family will be facing the usual criticisms. I do hope Charles does reduce the 'size' of the Royal family by excluding many of the peripheral ones from  enjoying the status it brings. That would go a long way to endearing himself to the public.

I read one report that the locals are vowing to run her out of town.

The police made her close up and escorted her " to a place of safety"

Good riddance- nasty old bag.

And then what? Are you happy for her just to be driven out of town to become somebody else's problem or would you rather ( as some have suggested on social media ) a more permanent solution?

Events involving 'torches and pitchforks' rarely end well.

She’s completely messed her life up ,at least the next few years of it. That should be ‘punishment’  enough .However she will need some kind of protection and security for a while because she has made herself vulnerable, you cannot just say she’s made her bed she should lie in it

It is unfortunate that it takes a sorrowful event of this nature for the Brits to display their unique historical skill and professionalism of pomp and ceremony to the rest of the world and, show how it should be done.

On a sour note, the hypocrisy of 'ginge and cringe' along with that of the SNP appears to hold no bounds. Jeremy Corbyn, for all his faults, didn't seek the limelight and at least had the common decency and courtesy to decline an invitation to attend King Charles 111's proclamation event.  Others with similar beliefs should have also done the same on other occasions yesterday.

As. Privy Counsellor wasn’t Mr Corbyn summoned to attend, an obligation therefore?

You are right. Although he does have a history of not attending Privy Council sessions and there are 650 of them, including Diane Abbott, which would have been somewhat of a stretch to accommodate them all yesterday.
