Are they sitting on your money?

There have been a couple of recent comments about people getting reduced UK pensions because they spent time working out of the country. Don't forget that you may be entitled to a pension from any other country where you have worked and paid social contributions. I get a small one from Belgium (70 euros a month) after working there for two years in the 1970's.

It was tedious to claim, but after all it's my money - you have to start with the Pensions Service in UK who will make the claim on your behalf.

One nice touch is that I also get holiday pay - a double month in summer!

I only get twice that from UK for 13 years' payments [:(]  Most of those were voluntary payments, made just before I retired, after discovering this was possible.

Maybe the rules changed, but I enquired at an Employment Office when on a visit to UK in about 1978, and was told I would have to back pay 16 years full payments to regain pension rights. When I suggested it might be possible to pay only the pension increment I was told this was not possible.

That was in the days when I believed what I was told by government employees.
