Things to do near Dinan

Recommended Posts

We are taking a short break in October and will have a Saturday based in Dinan, to fill. My OH is not keen on driving too far we'll have done St Malo and Cancale the day before and will visit Mont St Michel on the Sunday - any ideas for somewhere interesting to go - I've looked at Forte Latte...but its an hour....thats far enough....

Also any Brocantes in the area ? They would be of interest.

Hm, after St Malo and Cancale, you won't want more of the same then?  There is a gem of a little village called St Suliac just south of Dinan but I don't know whether you'd want any more sea.

I think it's worth a stroll down to the old port for lunch and the cathedral is good to visit.  I don't know what it's like in the day time though but, in the evening, to hear a concert, it's very enjoyable.

The Jardins des Anglais area is interesting with lovely old buildings and a fabulous panoramic viewpoint of the Rance.  It's the viewpoint where lots of postcards and paintings feature.

Visiting Mont St Michel on a Sunday could be taxing.  When it's very busy, it's difficult to move around.  If your short break includes a Monday, it would be better to go on a weekday.

There is Chateua Bourbansais between St Malo and Rennes.  It is a hands-on zoo, set in lovely gardens with guided tours around the chateau.  Displays of hunting dogs and falcons.  A little train to take you around the grounds.  http://www.labourbansais.com/

Dinan is lovely , interesting  and oo laa laa , vibrant at night!

If you are there for just a few days, you don't have to leave!

Spend most of your time , being there , instead of sitting in the car!

Surely parking up , means ,  relaxation / holiday.

One of the reasons for choosing Dinan is that I was there in early May and stayed at a pleasant hotel and found an excellent restaurant - so the evenings are taken care of.....we might just have a quiet day and possibly potter to Dinard.

We've visited Mont St Michel a lot on a Sunday - out of season its not too bad

  • 4 weeks later...

I was back in the Dinan area for a few hours last week and went here : http://www.la-ville-bague.com/index_en.html and the owners gave a wonderful tour...... In Dinan itself I visited Le Grande Vigne, the home of artist Yves Jean Haffen which was very interesting. The house name refers to the fact that vines were grown here years ago and that possibility is  becoming likely again due to climate change
