Just pausing to reflect on the fact that so few residents in the Haute Savoie, and in this idyllic corner of the world, post so infrequently? There are quite a large number of English speaking expats hereabouts.

We continually find more and more, and yet so few of them actually contribute to our section of the website. Come on folks, put in a little more effort and let's hear from you!

I must say that your post did bring a little smile to my face.

There were, in the general region where I lived plenty of expats, but not exactly where I lived, as we chose carefully.

I do not believe that one person I 'know' posts on here.

I have few english  friends in France and those I have, have had for many many years. So, as a general rule, I simply wasn't interested in cultivating new friendships just because we shared a language. My finding fellow expats would never have been difficult. Just not for me in my everyday life when I lived in France.

So why wouldn't they post, well, I would not even care to hazard a guess. And I agree, much of the Alpine region is lovely, although there are some areas that are truly awful, in spite of the views.[Www]

Actually I think it would be rather sad rather than ironic.

I too know several people who won around here, none of whom are (AFAIK) posters on this site.

The levels of knowledge of how things really work is very, very wide and a Brexit would shake some to the core - some without foundation and others perhaps on a more solid basis.

I can think of quite a few places, even in the Haute Savoe which of the Savoys is rather more upmarket.

And to cover the region, same same in the Isere, l'Ain and Hautes-Alpes.

As I always say, France is just a country and it is not perfect and neither are the Alpes as a region, although some of the mountain ranges are just about 'perfect' in my eyes.

Well, you would be very welcome to come and visit us here - absolute paradise [except for the high prices]. Lausanne/Vevey/Montreux right opposite, beautiful Lac Leman in front with an uninterrupted view, Dent dÓche and Les Memises on the southern side of the house with the Jura in the far distance. Beats Harrow, that's for sure!!!

We know many british people in the Gers, and can only think of 3 who are members of forums like this one. No idea of the reason though.

I've found forums very helpful in giving info and advice with practical and bureaucratic problems. Plus the "socialising", especially in winter when villages like ours are so quiet. I don't know how they manage without.

I bet I know who the one person Idun knows of is :-).

I don't post as often as I used to for a number of reasons, 1 I no longer working in a boring office where numerous quick looks at the forum helped the day along. 2 For some reason the software kept forgetting my login details and for a while I just couldn't post or be bothered with finding out which email I had used all those years ago. 3 Many of the things I wanted to know about had been covered. 4.... some of the fun seemed to go out of it. I like looking occasionally and ever more occasionally I will post (even when I get scathing replies because I didn't think a bit of background info was particularly important :-) ).
