Aquitaine, near Marmande - whats it like

Recommended Posts

Looking at properties in the area, whats the landscape like, being a little like Yorkshire here in Deux Sevres and know how it differs in various regions, we have been looking in the same area but not found anything at the moment we have been scouring the internet in other regions, so if anyone can give a little info on this area it would be much appreciated.

Cheers in advance.

I was going to say the same as Pete and Sarah. And also if you go to the SW of Marmande you start coming into the flat, pine- forested part of the Landes which we didn't like at all. But we looked at several places to the north east and the countryside was much softer and prettier. Marmande itself is near a busy motorway linking Bordeaux and Toulouse, and in the wide valley of the Garonne. I seem to remember there was more industry than usual around there. Pat

"You're wasting your time in marmande, you should be looking around Pau, much prettier with more interesting landscape"

A fairly unhelpful posting which answers nothing about the original enquiry.

Marmande itself is a working town with good rail and motorway links. The immediate area itself is not particularly interesting but just to the north are beautiful landscapes, wine growing areas, etc.

What is more interesting about the landscape around Pau?

Property prices in the area are reasonable and you have both Bordeaux and Bergerac airports in easy reach.

Pau is several hours away and has no relevance to the enquiry.
